DIY Black and White Words Basket Makeover

We've been living  in this apartment for over a year. The apartment is still not where I want it to be; we need to paint all of these colorful walls to make everything make sense. We might be moving closer to downtown in just a few months, though, so I don't want to paint more rooms before we know if we are staying. Anyhow, I needed to bring more black and white in! And there's just something magical with words, so I wanted to incorporate them into this project.

I happened to find these zebra striped baskets at Michaels; I've been looking for baskets for a while but nothing has caught my eye. I love the shape, size, handles and material of these so I went for them even though I no longer want to live with zebra stripes (yes, at some point in my life I had zebra striped sofa cushions. Mrau.).

So I painted these ones with some white crafts paint, and then I used a brush to paint on very simple black letters. Tadaa!

Saker&Ting pretty much means Bits&Pieces in Swedish. It was Husband's idea; clever guy!

I still haven't decided where to put them, but I love how they turned out.

What would you write on yours?

DIY Perfect Boyfriend Jeans

I don't have the privilege of being able to use my husbands jeans (we're just not the same size). I wanted some perfect boyfriend jeans that don't look brand new, and this is how I went about it:

I bought pretty basic boyfriend jeans from Old Navy; there was a little fading on them and some "scratched" surfaces, but not really enough wear and tear for me.

I made cuts in the fabric with an X-Acto knife, and started picking away the small pieces of thread that were crossing the cuts.

I took out a back pocket.

I dipped about 2 inches of the jean legs into some Clorox Gentle Care Bleach. After they had started fading a bit I added water so the bleach-water-mix rose about an inch, and after a while I added more water etc, until the bottoms of the legs had gotten a bit of an ombre bleach on them.

I spread out some bleach, with the help of a brush, onto the ripped areas as well as above and below it. If you want the bleach edge to be less obvious, brush on some water first around the area you're thinking about bleaching; that'll dilute it a bit.

Note! I put some parchment paper inside the legs of the jeans so that the bleach wouldn't go through to the other side.
