I like like like making fishtail braids. I love love love french braids... on others. I feel I just don't have thick enough hair to pull those off without looking bald. Last weekend I realized I could make a fishtail but French it up a bit. This is quite easy when you know the basics of making a fishtail and a French braid. What was not easy, though, was keeping arms up for so long (really need to work them out more!). Anyway, here's how I went about it:
Start with taking two sections at the top. In hindsight, I should have crossed the two sections over each other, so you do it :)
Start taking small sections of the hair that still aren't in your two main sections, cross them over to the opposite main section. So, If you started out with crossing the right MAIN section of the hair over the left one, start with taking a small part from the left side of the head to the now right (originally left) main section. Then from the right side of the head to the left main section (that originally was the right one), and so on.
Keep adding small sections until you reach the bottom,
then just continue in making the fishtail in the "normal" way.
Once I got lower I continued braiding on the side, since it was just so much easier on my arms. If you do this, just remember to do the crossing on the same side throughout.
Since I have some layers at the front that we're too short to stay in the braid, I pinned them under the braid.
Still wasn't completely pleased, so I teased the braid a little, putting my fingers in and pulling a bit. Spray, and you're done :)
(The very clear middle-section I think will be avoided by crossing the main sections in the beginning. And by coloring roots...)
