Christmas Calendar, Day 11
For the Holiday Table Setting:
Gold Confetti Coasters
Again, I wanted to make something that wouldn't be too Holidayish, since I wanted something we could use year round for entertaining. I hadn't yet tried out gold leafing and was intrigued, and that's how these tiles we've been using thus far as coasters got a new look:
How to:
Lowes had these basic white tiles for really about 20 cents a piece, which I cleaned up with a soapy cloth and then a paper towel.
Michaels had this set of gold leaves with a gold leaf glue pen for about 8 dollars.
Have some paper under the coasters while you work, otherwise you'll have gold confetti all over the place. Trust me, I know...
Draw the pattern you want to make onto the tile. Wait 5-10 minutes.
(The package says that the glue will dry clear, I thought mine was clear but could see after I removed the gold leaves it had dried red.)
Anyway, apply pieces of gold leaves onto your pattern (I cut my leaf pieces in smaller ones), with the protective film facing upwards. Rub/tap gently with your finger on the design. Remove the protective film (a lot of the extra gold leaves came off with it).
This is where I realized this would get messy...
Take a soft brush, and GENTLY start dusting off the excess gold. I used my blush brush, which I was going to change anyway.
If the gold leafing hasn't attached in all places, you can put on some glue pen again, and add new gold leaves.
When I got all the extra gold off, I went outside and sprayed on a few layers of Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer (Matte).
PS: You could also glue cork board or felt underneath, to protect your table from scratches.
Pretty! Duktiga Jenna :)
